Royal Holloway, University of London

Royal Holloway is a University of Social Purpose, creating positive change, for what matters – for our students, for society and for the world.

Royal Holloway brings combined and integrated strengths in innovative education and transformative research together with a passion to create, teach and share knowledge. Founded on the principles of equity in opportunity, Royal Holloway continues to reimagine this history by transforming lives through education and creating positive change.

Through inclusive research and education, Royal Holloway colleagues and students strive to be agents of change in our local and global communities. We are resolutely future-facing, developing skills for choice and opportunity; and seek creative solutions to complex challenges to make a real difference in the world.

Five strategic areas of strength underpin research and learning at Royal Holloway: AI and New Technologies, Climate and Biodiversity; Culture and Creativity; Health and Wellbeing; and Social Justice and Addressing Inequalities. We thrive on interdisciplinary work and the new solutions to complex problems that it can open up.

In the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, Royal Holloway remained within the top 25% of universities in the UK for research which is rated ‘world-leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*). 88% of Royal Holloway research fell within these two categories, with 42% rated 4* (the highest category).

Across our two campuses, in Egham and Central London, we aim to empower individuals and transform lives through collaboration with one another, with local and global partners, and through community.

Professor Julie Sanders, Vice-Chancellor and Principal said:

“Now is such an important moment for us as a sector to build ways to collaborate, and to advocate for what matters – not only in research and innovation, but in all we do to support our students, colleagues and local and global communities.

“Coupled with research excellence across disciplines, I’m proud to bring Royal Holloway’s particular focus on inclusive education and research, and skills for choice and opportunity, to the ResearchPlus collective, and I really look forward to making positive change together.”
