Building aspiration
A targeted taste of higher education at SOAS Summer Schools
For one week each summer, SOAS fills with a different kind of student. Around 100 Year 10 pupils from across London, eligible or previously eligible for Free School Meals, with experience of local authority care, or from areas underrepresented in higher education, take part. They swap classrooms for taster lectures, sharpen study skills, and glimpse what campus life actually feels like. Recent graduates return to share their own stories into careers, showing that the pathway is possible for anyone. The scheme has led to measurable jumps in understanding about university, intention to apply and self-belief.
