- CEI delivers pioneering research and development in advanced electronic image sensing technologies, in partnership with Teledyne-e2v. Last autumn, it celebrated its 20th anniversary (supported by Lord David Willetts) with the announcement of the renewal of a further five-year collaboration with Teledyne-e2v. This represents a £3.2M investment split equally between the OU and Teledyne-e2v.
- The CEI is a long-standing, highly successful academic and industrial partnership between the OU and Teledyne-e2v, underpinned by pioneering research and development of advanced imaging technologies for space science.
- The partnership with Teledyne-e2v has significantly advanced space imaging detectors, with over 1000 Teledyne-e2v image sensors flown in space in over 200 missions.
- Two space missions have launched in the last year, the JUICE mission and Euclid mission. We’re now starting to see some breathtaking images from these missions that the CEI have spent many years working on.
- The work of the CEI has helped to position the UK as a leader in a market valued at approximately £500 million annually. Launched in 2004 at Brunel University, the CEI has been based at the OU since 2008.
